Missing fuse box inside cover!

Hey Eric -- The electrical fuse box on the outside of my house is missing the metal sheet that goes over the wires, but doesn't cover the switches --it was thrown out by mistake. It is a tract house from the 70's in So. Calif. How can I get a replacement (I have no idea of the manufacturer) and what is the danger of not having one?
