Microsoft Office Home & Student has only Word, Excel, Powerpoint & One Note. Microsoft Office Pro also has outlook , access & publisher. The question which is better depends on your use.
Microsoft Home & Student is significantly cheaper than the pro version. If you don't use any of the programs that the pro version offers, there is no need for you to buy that.
This also depends on what kind of position you're considering these versions for. If for office use, the home & student version wasnt built for that. If for personal use, it could be either one.
