Michael J. Fox and Stem Cell Research ALS

There's this video with Michael J Fox which is not easy to watch, but hats off for Michael J Fox for doing this.

Stem Cell Research seems to be becoming more and more political. Why has it become such a loaded issue? Wouldn't we want to do everything possible to help ALS or other nerves and muscles damages?

I think that most of the issue is around the use of embryonic stem cells and not on adult stem cells. Research with embryonic cells requires killing the embryo first. This act, considered by many to be unethical and even murder.

Putting aside the religious issues inherent in the EMBRYONIC stem cell controversy, there are also MANY scientific/medical problems associated with the use of embryonic stem cell for treatment of disease.  http://repairstemcell.wordpress.com/screw-the-embryos-they%e2%80%99re-irrelevant/

Adult stem cells are racking up many victories against ALS - http://repairstemcell.wordpress.com/2009/06/19/can-stem-cell-research-really-defeat-the-1927-yankees-and-lou-gehrigs-disease-als-adult-stem-cell-research/

Even Dr OZ, on Oprah, talking to Michael J Fox, on front of 7.2 million viewers, said: “I think, Oprah, the stem cell debate is dead. The problem with embryonic stem cells is that embryonic stem cells come from embryos, like all of us are made from embryos, and those cells can become any cell in the body, but it’s very hard to control them and so they can become cancer.” - http://repairstemcell.wordpress.com/oprah-michael-j-fox-dr-oz-stem-cell-debate-is-dead/
