Meta tags how can I change them?

I have a website that is not doing well. I was told that my tags were really bad and asked the people who built the site to change them but to no avail. I have access to my control panel but I have no idea what I have to go into to change them can anyone help me with this?

I need to know what is the platform on which your web site is running. There are various programs that can be used to build web sites. Some have plugins that can better control the tags and text that appear in the HTML meta tags so that it is possible to tweak them to get better SEO (Search Engine Optimizations).
