I think the best way to go would be self-hypnosis.  Success Hypnosis has got a great CD and, in addition to losing weight, it will help boost your esteem and build enthusiasm for exercise.  Menopause is a tough time for a woman and they need more than just portion control.  Give it a try, it's guaranteed so you've got nothing to lose.
