It must have been almost 20 years since the last Mel Brooks movie I remember, Space Balls. Why did he stop making movies? I loved them.
Actually he did not stop making movies 20 years ago. Here are 4 movies that he did in the last 15 years , and he did many other things, in the television , the theater and so on.
In 1991 he did as an actor/producer "Life Stinks " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_Stinks
In 1993 he did as an actor/producer Robin Hood: Men In Tights

In 1995 he did as an actor/producer Dracula: Dead And Loving It http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dracula:_Dead_and_Loving_It
In 2005 he did as a writer, producer The Producers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Producers:_The_Movie_Musical
Thanks Yoav. I completely forgot about Men In Tights and didn't know about the others. I'll look for the DVDs.
In addition to his most recent movies [Robin Hood: Men in Tights ; The Producers] Mel Brooks has focused more on his Voice Over Acting rather than his producing and writing career.
Over the last few years he has voiced quite a few characters in some animated series and movies including:
Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks - as Wiley the Sheep
Robots - as Bigweld
The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius - as Santa Claus
It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie - as Joe Snow
In addition to his Voice over work, he has also co-stared on several shows including Mad About You.
His biggest project however is SpaceBalls: The Animated Series.
Set for TV as a series of animated spoofs of popular sci-fi movies and shows.
Mel Brooks co-wrote and will voice two characters in the series that was picked up by G4tv. [source]
Therefore, I'd say with all that voice over, guest starring, and Animated Series work, he probably hasn't had time to follow a film project full through, but knowing Mel Brooks; I'd assume he has a few projects he'd like to get into the light of day on his desk.
