I have Media Player 11.0 installed, and I'm trying to see an AVI. It gives me an error that I am missing a codec, but does not specify which one. I downloaded the codec pack, but it doesnt help. The pack once installed says that my media player version should be 10 for the pack to work... I am running windows XP, not Vista. Any ideas how to fix it?..

Which codec pack did you install?

Download VLC (http://www.videolan.org) - it's much better than WMP and can play pretty much anything without needing to download codecs.

honestly, I don't even remember right now...I remember searching for "download media player 11 codec" and came up with a few links. that's how I got to the pack... I think one was from microsoft site, and one from codec. both said the same - that my media player is above version 10, and thats the max version the pack supports.

argh.... :)

You can install codec or use a converter to convert it to some other format that you player supports. Maybe you can try uSeesoft Total Video Converter. It can convert video files between almost any format, like AVI, WMV, MP4, FLV, MPEG, 3GP, MKV, MOV,etc.  As to extract audio files, uSeesoft Total Video Converter can extract audio tracks and convert to audio formats, such as converting MP4 to MP3, converting AVI to WMA, converting MKV to AAC, converting MP4 to AC3, etc.

Learn more details about it here: http://www.useesoft.com/video-converters/total-video-converter.html
