Knowing Others is Intelligence.   Knowing Yourself is True Wisdom...

A:

Here’s my answer straight up without pulling any punches. Frankly, NO, there is nothing on any books in Maryland or any other state that says if someone asks a doctor for opioids, or any other medication, a doctor has to comply.  As for writing to MD State Board of Medical Examiners as someone suggested would be an exercise in futility on your part. The only thing that will get you is more frustrated and aggravated than you already are.

Reality check; in this case you have no creditability. Try looking at this from another view. Here is a person who is poor (as in no money), can’t afford to hire a lawyer nor doctor shop. No professional degree’s and no notoriety of any kind. Writes a letter to a medical board (another doctor) complaining about another doctor who doesn’t want to prescribe a controlled substance to them (we’re not talking about vitamins here). So who would you believe? From your post you come across as a whiner, and a drug addict. All a doctor has to do is say that in their professional opinion you pose a high risk for addiction, overdosing, and are unable to take medication as prescribed. GAME OVER!

I think what you need to do is check into a inpatient drug treatment program before it’s too late and you find yourself on the street looking for heroin, and doing whatever it takes to get the money to get yourself off of sick that day. Or perhaps find someone who will sell you what you want from their prescription, until they decide, they don’t want or can’t do it any more.  I don’t mean to sound harsh but one no ever said life is easy, and I speak to you from personal experience. Best Of Luck…

Dear Renegade,

Thank you for your opinion, but I do not believe it has merit. I do not believe that you even read my question. My question was continuity of care, the physician had been prescribing me opiode medications for about 8 years. He decided to sever the relationship because I asked him a question that he could not answer and it infuriated him. I asked him what was my diagnosis. He could not answer it, and that is when he started to give me a hard time and make my life miserable. FYI, I now have a true Pain Management physician and he is helping me to the best of his ability. He does not do pill checks, because like you stated, a person can go refill their bottle by purchasing pills off of the street, but he will cut a patient off if they are not honest with him. He states that he doesn't even care if a person buys it off of the street because he knows that is their risk, and also knows that there are so many prescriptions stolen. I am assuming that is why he states this part. He is going through hell trying to be one of maybe 3 pain management physicians available within a 100 mile radius of where i live. Everyone flocks to him and he is getting tired of the DEA down his throat because of dealers and addicts "trying to" get him to scribe opiodes. He sees through the B-S for the most part.

I would never buy prescriptions, nor any type of medications off of the street, I could just go to the hospital for paliative care/end of life care. I have many painful medical diagnosis or symptoms that need to be diagnosed, that the doctors have been trying to figure out for over a decade of my life.

During the first 5 years of the illnesses that i have, I have been on major news channels doing interviews with Vic Carter, about, "How people like you are making it hard for people like myself to get the pain medications that we need". i have spoken to the media and physicians and have been a spokesperson for The American Pain Foundation, and have helped many people that somehow find me on the internet. Most likely through something that I posted years ago. I am a giver not a taker, depsite helping myself, I continue to give to people because I see that it makes them feel better and they truly appreciate it. Time from my life is what I give, and I do not have much more time left.

You stated that you are speaking from personal experience. I do not even see where we click. I do not spend all of my waking hours looking to obtain a high. Also, I do not see where my knowledge of the system makes me pose as an addict, wanna be addict, person who wants to get High,( as I have never felt what you addicts feel from Duragesic nor Oxycontin prescribed together). It does help to relieve the pain that I have which continues to worsen as I constantly am being diagnosed with more diseases/disorders. So Frankly, I believe there is no reason for me to check into a detox or rehab.

Your personal experience is totally different from anyone elses so do not compare yourself to anyone else.  I appreciate your candor, and the fact that you made a mistake reading my post but you have it all wrong.

I used to be a productive citizen who paid taxes to pay for your SS check or your addictions, I had never even taken a tylenol, I did not get novocaine for a filling when I was pregnant, but I did take care of my body, was 7% body fat, ate organic foods, and exercised twice everyday. After I had my last live born child, I became ill, or did not feel like I came out of the baby blues phase and thought it was the fact that I was older than I was when I had my first 2 children. Anyhow, I did become very ill and due to these illnesses that i have, I am now the total opposite person.

It is people like you that make it hard for the now, 80 million United States citizens that are suffering from extremely painful chronic conditions, be able to obtain these medications. People like you,(or you were), are the reason that there are not enough physicians that will take the chance to prescribe opiodes because if one of you, either an addict or dealer slips through the cracks in their office, the DEA is down their throat and yanking their license. Opiodes, are natural and are made from a certain types of poppy flowers, and I believe that they were put on this earth by God, for a good reason. He gave us everything we need to live off of when he made earth and made man. There are other herbs and flowers that grow in one's garden that can be taken to alleviate pain or anxiety that most people do not even know about. Also, so far, opiodes instead of all synthetic medications, if taken correctly, are the safest pain medication to date with the fewest side effects.

There are so many theives, addicts on the streets in every city that it disgusts me but I would die before I would purchase a prescription pill from a theiving drug addict that is the cause of 1/3 of Americans suffering while they die in pain.

Remember this, we are like snowflakes, everyone of us are different and we are not a text book. We have different needs, and God made us this way. God gave us everything that we need to survive, and he put it right here on Earth. Us Humans, are the ones that are destroying his plan. We do not need vehicles, synthetic drugs (if you go to New Guinea, you will find that they live off of tradition, the earth, respect, hope and faith. They are very happy, healthy, (probably bc they walk a lot and eat from the earth without preservatives and chemicals), they do NOT have toothpaste, doctors, soda pop, pain relievers from a pill but they do have pain relievers from barks of trees and such, the water that the swim and bathe in is inriched with dense minerals which we are lacking in our brown dirty waters, etc.. They are living off of the earth, have no touch with the rest of the world and they live happily ever after. This is because they are living the good life, the life that God wants us to live not destroy as we US citizens and most of the other world do every second of the day.

I wish that I had a simple life of tradition, loyalty, respect, simplicity, and trust in the elders w/o question. I probably would not be ill right now and I would be happier than I could ever imagine.

Thank you for your input.
