Here’s my answer straight up without pulling any punches. Frankly, NO, there is nothing on any books in Maryland or any other state that says if someone asks a doctor for opioids, or any other medication, a doctor has to comply. As for writing to MD State Board of Medical Examiners as someone suggested would be an exercise in futility on your part. The only thing that will get you is more frustrated and aggravated than you already are.
Reality check; in this case you have no creditability. Try looking at this from another view. Here is a person who is poor (as in no money), can’t afford to hire a lawyer nor doctor shop. No professional degree’s and no notoriety of any kind. Writes a letter to a medical board (another doctor) complaining about another doctor who doesn’t want to prescribe a controlled substance to them (we’re not talking about vitamins here). So who would you believe? From your post you come across as a whiner, and a drug addict. All a doctor has to do is say that in their professional opinion you pose a high risk for addiction, overdosing, and are unable to take medication as prescribed. GAME OVER!
I think what you need to do is check into a inpatient drug treatment program before it’s too late and you find yourself on the street looking for heroin, and doing whatever it takes to get the money to get yourself off of sick that day. Or perhaps find someone who will sell you what you want from their prescription, until they decide, they don’t want or can’t do it any more. I don’t mean to sound harsh but one no ever said life is easy, and I speak to you from personal experience. Best Of Luck…
