Can McDonalds get you into college?

Should students receive high school credit for working at McDonalds?  The fast-food company claims that they are teaching these kids something useful, and now colleges are in a dillema regarding whether or not to accept these credits.  What do you think?

High school education is fundamental for higher learning. Credits earned by attending classes in secondary school shouldn't be exchangeable for interships somewhere else, unless it's a specific training program offered by the dpt. of education. I think, on hands experience plays an important role in a career but shouldn't be a substitute. Education is important as well as practical experience. Internships are encouraged in college but you have to be enrolled in a program and first earn a number of credits.

I agree with G, however I also believe that this program may help motivate these young people without their high school education to go back and finish or continue their education. I doubt that a college or university will ever accept these credits.

McDonalds is well known for  motivating and training their employees in house and grooming them for future management. Many of the execs, franchisees and managers of McDonalds got their start working the grill, fryers and registers.

Just a note also that this credit for experience is only in the UK at this time.

I promote education, therefore, I'll argue this point of offering credits towards their high school diploma(which most likely won't be accepted in college). If they work at these places to earn money, chances are they won't go back to finish High School. Money, unfortunately, can make us greedy and lure people with poor guidance to settle for a position that offers them a steady income. We should be encouraging the young generation to get a decent education as this is vital for anything in life. It's sad to see that in order to keep these places running -which in my opinion don't offer much but a  poor nutrition- they try to promote recruiting vulnerable teenagers who may be looking for a short-cut in life due to a different number of reasons in their lives. It does not matter what corner of the world this is happening at the moment, it is just a shame that society doesn't guide youth to not settle for less. They should promote management of a bigger dream and not supervising over a greasy counter to keep their supply and demand going.

I think it should be credit.  they are learning all kinds of things.  Discipline and working well with others.

this it totally off the subject... but I'm more concerned with the hormones the milk cows that are used for meat at Mickey Ds are consuming.  Yeech!  I won't eat there except once every three months because I know regular consumption of they're meat products is harmful for my health.  Gotta admit it tastes F#(%ing good though.  It's the special sauce that does it.  I do like those Grilled Chicken Snackers though... those things are healthy.   and oh lord those shakes... lord have mercy... I'm getting hungry for it.

...but back on the subject.... yes absolutely more educational then most classes will ever be... but it should not be counted as a math requirement or an englsh requirement.  It should be a credit towards business... and I'm all for calling a spade a spade.

totally off the subject again... but I would also like to point out movies like "Supersize Me" failed to point out that though they said the main cause of obesity in America is our school cafeterias  ..that the majority of cafeterias in America are operated by European companies that are exploiting our people. Companies like Sodexho.  (I worked for Sodexho and it is by far the most corrupt company I know of)  We Americans need to feel better about the companies that are American... 'cuz guess what?  They aren't the one's making us obese.  Don't believe the media hype!

...Another reason for staying with a Spanish (Mediterranean) diet, even when they choose fast food, they go for Burger King as the beef patties are grilled! Why doesn't Microsoft start recruiting high school students and offer these credits for working there and teach them useful skills? That would be a more educational program.
