Mayflies don't bite. Maybe you're thinking about mosquitoes?
They are mayflies - been herefor 30 years- i know biting bugs (too well)- only here in wooded mass in may- some people call them no see ums
no see ums is the right name

There are several kinds of no see ums, mayfly is not one of them as they are the size of dragonflies
