Man sexually abuses his own daughter

A 35-year old Canadian man who sexually abused his 4-year-old daughter live on the Internet so another man (who happened to be an undercover detective) could watch was sentenced to four years in prison.

The father, whose name was not released to protect the identity of his daughter, was arrested in October 2006, just hours after he used a Webcam to expose his daughter to another man during a chat room conversation.

I'm appalled at this case. Am I right that this sentence is much too lenient? Is this guy getting away with destroying his child's life? Is there a way to petition the Canadian court to extend the prison sentence?

Yes it's too lenient.

It's amazing isn't it?  In fact, chances are if the police had an undercover agent talking with this guy, they already knew he had child porn.  Heck, they probably exchanged pictures before this occured.  They didn't arrest him, they waited for him to do something more so they could nail him.

The police and the courts don't really care about kids.  We have a sicko who follows kids carried by their parents to daycare in the neighborhood, and hangs outside on the sidewalk of the daycare.  The police say he is just a man who walks around the neighborhood.  Which is funny because once one of the neighbors called this in to the cops, the next week they had shards of glass shoved in their backyard.

In Canada, I'm not sure if the police or the courts are even interested in protecting children, communities, or just regular people who just work for their families.  They seem more interested in protecting predators.

And no, there is not much you can do to petition the courts.  You don't have a name, so you can't even monitor his parole hearing.

Just so everyone knows, he was sentenced to 4 years.  The time he has spent in jail counts already during the trial counts, so that shaves off some time.  So he is eligible for parole in about 20 months.  And that might actually be a mandatory release parole.  Which means if he acts nice in prison, he gets out on parole automatically.  He could come out sooner if he has served a third of his sentence for a regular parole hearing (in about 4 to 10 months).

So yes, this is much too lenient, the child isn't destroyed but will be scarred for life, and no there is nothing you can do since you don't have a name for the criminal.

Welcome to Canada.

In my opinion it is way to lenient. As far as petitioning the Canadian courts that is out of my base of knowledge.

Knowing that this is a site visited by many ages, I will keep to myself, what I would do to this guy. But would I ever enjoy having 24 hours with him.

Please help protect our children and report any abuse.

It's a horrible story, this person is a freaking monster and really ,no punishment is too bad for him.

The only reason I can think of why this happened the way that it did is that the lawyer came to some compromise so that the little girl don't have to testify and so her life doesn't get even more damage then they already are.

I really hope he get a very strong and nasty cell mate.

Once again this phenomena shows its ugly face. There is a real problem with the way sexual crimes are dealt with. It seems like the law isn't doing enough in order to protect society from such scum such as this father mentioned in the question. Sooner or later the legislature will realize these puny punishments simply aren't intimidating enough and more severe actions will be taken against such criminals.
I can only hope it'll be sooner than later...

Much agreed way to light of a sentence and you konw in prison he would only do about half of his time with good behavior. Although im told that life for sex offenders isn't made easy in jail if they are allowed life at all. Not that i condoll such acts i also can't say that I don't agree with such a fate for this disgusting "father." He wont  be satisfying varey many ergings while in prison now will he. As far as anything we can do I relly don't know but I can do some research and post it here when I figure something out, Ive got some ideas but Ill have to check Canadian law to make sure they apply. Until then maybe just sending the daughter a card/gift telling her that people out there care would help, at least It would help me if i were in such a place. Bback soon- -*K*J*-
