Male nanny (manny)

Would you hire a male nanny? I hear horror stories about men abusing children, but also women tempting husbands. Is a manny better or worse than a nanny?

I think that gender should not be a major factor in the decision to hire a nanny. What is important is that they have experience and great references. Check into their references and watch them interact with your kids to make sure they get along well. Use your best judgement. Good luck!

A while ago this very interesting book was published interviewing both mothers and Nannies about the difficulties and emotions toward each other and the children. One of the points in the book was that even though the Nanny take care of the kids, it's still the mom responsibility to direct her and be very presence in the children lives, some women prefer to hire a male nanny (Manny sounds really insulting to me) so that the children will have a male role model that's very presence in their lives.

Both male and female nannies can abuse the children or seduce one of the parents. I think that though we do hear horror stories, this is not the main thing to consider - there are also abusive parents and school teachers, it happens,  and it's a risk one takes in leaving his kids with a half strangers.

I think that it's mostly about finding something your family can connect to and who is good at what he does and can work well within the boundaries of the family.

To answer this question as it was asked would require a generalization.  The real answer is to find a person who is responsible, mature, and is in the business because they care about children, and this could be a nanny or a manny.  Your kids deserve the best, which is you the parent, but when that is not possible, you must take the steps to find out about the person that will be taking your place, while you are away from them.

ok my answer is no better no worse.  having a manny is like having a male secretary.  nannies can do the same ugly stuff mannies may do.  so do the leg work, the homework, the research and have them properly screened.  check into their background and go with your gut feeling.  if u r traditional then u will go with only nannies.  if u r very liberal then u may explore mannies.  whatever ur decision trust in God.  ur manny may be just perfect.

It makes no different about the sex hun. Male and Female can be preditors. Just make sure you do a thourough background check on the person. I know that the world is a crazy place. I have 3 children and believe me it is still uneasy for me to leave them with another, but you can't let yourself start stereotyping everyone male or female because of the bad apples that you hear about. Make sure you check out all of there references. Speak with old employers to find out about them and a criminal background check.
