That is more of a generational thing. Older generations like it and younger generations don't care for it, but I think the word repulsed is too strong.
I met my long-time friend and his girlfriend who is 8 years younger in Vegas about a year ago. While sunning at the pool, my friend's girlfriend asked me what I thought about one of her friends that I had met recently. Apparently, I had been identified as her ideal type - tall and more importantly, no chest hair. It was then that I realized my friend had shaved his chest, which I had never seen him do before. I asked him about this later when his girlfriend went into the pool, and he said that all the girls her age dislike it or it reminds them of their father.
