That is more of a generational thing.  Older generations like it and younger generations don't care for it, but I think the word repulsed is too strong.

I met my long-time friend and his girlfriend who is 8 years younger in Vegas about a year ago.  While sunning at the pool, my friend's girlfriend asked me what I thought about one of her friends that I had met recently.  Apparently, I had been identified as her ideal type - tall and more importantly, no chest hair.  It was then that I realized my friend had shaved his chest, which I had never seen him do before.  I asked him about this later when his girlfriend went into the pool, and he said that all the girls her age dislike it or it reminds them of their father.

As a Canadian woman I hope I am able to fit in your western woman standards. Anyways about the hair issue there are  totally different opinions  between the feminine side. I personally have no problem with a hairy chest . I wouldn't want my man to try imitating me. Hair is a macho, manly sign which distinguishes us woman from them (I am not saying I have anything against bald man). I have seen and felt man with shaved chests and man with so called hairy chests , I must say that after the shaving the skin doesn't feel as soft and gentle that was a big disadvantage. What is the next step man will start shaving their arms? I am up for the natural look and the so called "beauty standards" are so pathetic! I mean once back in the Middle Ages big fat voluptuous woman were considered the prettiest and today?
