Makeup and Pimples

I'm a teenager and still have some pimples. My friend once told me that makeup can do further damage to the skin because is block the porosity and contribute to blackheads appearing. Is it true? Is there a special makeup for my skin?

when buying makeup, make sure that it is labeled non-comedogenic which basically means that it is acne friendly and will not clogg the pores.

Thank you so much! Now that I know this product exists I'd like to know if there is a good makeup that can actually help the acne? not only not make it worst?

Hi Solen,

In general, it's a good idea to use the right foundation for your skintype. If you're suffering from occasional breakouts or general oily skin, you can try oil-free foundation. It's not fool proof, but it's the best type of foundation to use for your skintype. This goes for both foundation and concealer. Try your closest Clinique counter, they have foundation which also contains ingredients which will help fight acne called "Clarifying Makeup Clear Skin Formula" (You should NOT be on Accutane medication, however, if using any formula on your face containing Salyclic Acid). Another oil-free choice you might want to try is the "Pure" line of foundations and powders from Maybelline, which are formulated for breakout-prone, young skin.

As for the rest of the face, try to stay away from heavy, oily blushes. Opt for powder blushes instead, or cream blushes that won't block your pores and are kind to your skin, like from Burt's Bees.

I hope I helped!

For foundation, try some of the mineral powders.  They don't have all the additives.  Check out your local health-food store; they often carry cosmetics which are organic, or vegan-friendly, or both.  You should also pay attention to your cleansing routine and be aware that drying out your skin will only cause further problems.

I found for myself that the only thing that keeps my blemishes in check is benzoyl peroxide.  ProActiv is one (expensive) source for this, but Neutrogena also makes an excellent cleanser/mask with b.p.

Blackheads are this:  plugs of oil in your pores that have collected dirt and debris; thereby making it appear black.  Blackheads are "open", if it had a covering of skin over it it would appear to be a whitehead.  Exfoliate once or twice a week to keep blackheads in check.

Always good to avoid make up, but if you really want to do it, use the easy remove lotion before applying and wipe it off as soon as you are done.
