Major Problems/issues/Stuff in the middle

Water is coming from the tub out into the hallway. I knocked a hole in the wall to see where the water is coming from. Yep, it under the tub. I caulk the tub but not the problem. Now I smell mildew.  I have removed the carpet from the small hallway. The water is going under the tile. This house was built in 1967 on a slab like foundation. My parents left it to my kids. They are 24 and 19 and live here too. They said I could live here as long as i want too. I had to borrow money to put a new furnace in. I put a heat pump changed from gas to electric. changed fuse box from edison. The hot water is still gas. I had someone to blow installation into the attic. Put vents in the house. This entire house needs a makeover inside and out. It has alumuim sidings. The roof is about 15 yrs. old and don't look to bad. The gutter, windows, siding or door have never been replaced.  Everyone on the block has remodel there home. I was raise here. Our house looks like a sore.I also had to purchase a washer, dryer, refrigerator. I am a single mom making very little money.  The city has valued house at $109,000. but you won't get half of that. The sewer isn't the best. I had the city come and check the lines. They check from the street to house. Works fine. I was told by neighbors that the foundation would have to be broken up to get to the lines in the house. Wheww what does a mother do? I am happy that we do have a roof over our head. I pay the taxes and everything. I am not afraid to get my hands dirty. I am 54 yrs. old and don't know what to do?  What should I do if it was you?

Love your life.

Honestly, doing the job yourself might get you into trouble, especially if something is done incorrectly. You might try contacting a local plumber to do the job and see if he/she can set you up with either a payment plan or if you can pay back in cooking him/her meals or babysitting for his/her children. Good luck!

My name is Max Stout.

Ask for me by name.  Cool

You mentioned kids ("My parents left it to my kids. They are 24 and 19 and live here too.") . I'd say you have the potential to fix the problem yourself. You didn't mention if you discovered a pressure leak or a drainage leak. Either way, removing the tub and replacing piping, joints, or fixtures should be something your two young men can handle, even with a handyman book or an online tutorial. Basically, plumbing jobs like yours are elementary. The hard part is the labor in getting to the leak. Leaks have a way of "telegraphing" their way to the lowest point before the droplets fall. Watch for these and be brave...I believe you all can do it and save your dough for the celebration of your successful plumbing work!

Good luck with it all.
