Magnolia identification by the seed pods

I have some magnolia seed pods aquired from my brothers new home. The pods are cone like, long, hard  and scaley. The numerous seeds are hidden deep under each scale usually in two's attached to the core. all the seed I am finding on the web is completely different, fresh berries popping from the pod. that not what I have. Can some one help me identify the type of magnolia please?

Here are some sites that may help:

1) You can ask questions on this site.

www.flowersforums.com/seed-999.

2) *This site has a variety of photos. Some show seed pods in various stages of development. Click on the link to the main page (and on the photos to enlarge them).

www.wildcrafting.net/forage/picture/151/481.htm.

3) This site doesn't answer emails, but it has a page of FAQ questions concerning magnolias, and I believe it may have links to other sites, as well.

home.att.net/~velvet-hammer/questions.html.

* The link to this second site is not working properly. If you open the main site, just type 'magnolia' in the search line, then click on the link that appears (magnolia grandiflra). That should get you to the magnolia home page. Sorry about the glitch.
