Madrid or Barcelona?

Which city would you recommend for a first visit in Spain - Madrid or Barcelona? We'll be there for 5 days.

I was late for work this morning, because I got stuck in Zeno's paradox

Either way you can't go wrong

Laughing. Both are very interesting cities with lots to see and do in each. My personal preference would be toward Barcelona, but you will have a fantastic time in Madrid as well. There are also some very interesting sites that you can see quite easily in a day's journey from Madrid (Toledo - highly recommended, Avila, Segovia...) so if you plan on touring around a bit outside the main city then Madrid might be better for you as a starting point. From Barcelona you have to go further in order to get to other really interesting places.

Depends what you hope to do. Barcelona could keep you busy for 5 days no problem and you would never need to leave the city. Also there is a lot of day trips you can take by train.

Madrid, can be a quick trip but the best parts in my opinion our jsut outside of the city: TOledo, Segovia, El Escorial all reachable by bus/train but for this it's better to have a car.

I lived in Madrid, and now live in Barcelona. Both are wonderful, but if you want to do some driving pick Madrid, if you want to walk alot and take a train or two shoot for Barcelona.

Either way keep an open mind and taste a lot of food and wine where ever you go!

CEO SkyLow.com - the only web application that allows you to book flights as low as $0.01

I would advise on Barcelona for a first visit.

Barcelona has a "young in spirit" feeling , it has the fun activities as well as the historical sites.

Have fun
