Enough beef to feeds 2 hamburgers to every man, woman and child in USA

What was wrong with the 143 million pounds of beef that was recalled in California? What would have happened if humans ate this meat? What with the USDA do with all this beef now?

As far as i know, based on a report in Israeli news, the beef was recalled because the slaughterhouse in which the cattle was turned into beef treated the animals with uncalled for cruelty.I also understood that the beef will not be destroyed, but rather that it will be distributed to people without means.

The recalling, therefore, will not cause good food to be thrown to the garbage, but will just prevent the abusive slaughterhouse from making profit from its cruelty.

Meat from downer cows is not allowed to be processed due to the fear of Mad Cow disease.  Most probably these cows were "down" due to broken legs, hurt hips, etc.  Many cows go down after having problems delivering calves.  The threat of Mad Cow disease is minimal in this country.  A cow must be able to walk into the slaughter house in order to be used for consumption by humans.  That said, family farmers would be outraged to see their animals treated in this fashion.  Yes, they are going to be slaughtered but it should be done in a humane manner.

I have no idea what will be done with the recalled meat but it can not be redistributed to people.

They took sick and down cattle and slaughter them. The FDA states that any known cow that become sick down are not to be slaughter because of concern for mad cow. The beef will have to be destroyed.

I'm pretty sure I know everything, almost.

I'm not a vegetarian, or vegan or anything like that. But I hate the industrialized slaughter of animals. It conjures visions of Nazi camps. We should try to reduce meat consumption and encourage small scale slaughter where the farmers actually have a relationship of sorts with the animals they kill.
