Low growl in front

ok, I admit I know nothing about maintenece or repair-but my grand cherokee makes a low growling sound in the front, and it seems to be worse when I turn the wheel to the left-I live 100 mi from the nearest mechanic, is this something I should be really concerned with, require immediate attention? I drive mountain roads
