You should check the HUD housing site and look into low income housing which is different from Section 8 housing. You sign up at individual apartment building and your rent will be based on what you can pay (including whether or not there will be a deposit). This is the best program that I can find. Also I would sign for Section 8 help, because those who are going to be homeless or are homeless get helped first. You may qualify for motel vouchers until http://www.hud.gov/ .
and click on Renting . It will list apartments and you have to go to each of the ones you want to and sign up to get in. There is a brand new one that hardly anyone knows about in Sylmar called Rockwood apartments if your interested. You can also go to the self help clinics at the courthouses. They can help or point to someone or a program that can. They a lot more information than just legal especially for people being evicted due to owner’s foreclosure. Here is the link to phone numbers and locations. Go early and sign in immediately. Don’t wait. It is a first come, first serve service: http://www.nls-la.org/contact_self.php#self
Good luck!
