Here is the answer to all diets.  Take your desired weight and multiply it by ten.....that is your daily caloric intake for a day.  You wanna blow your calories on a candy bar? Thats stupid, but go ahead, just dont go over that number. Get up and exercise. Anything that makes you "uncomfortabel" for a haf hour a day isn't much to ask for weight loss.  walk fast, jog slow, do aerobics...just do someting. Thinking that you can lose real fat by cutting out certain foods and not exercise is ridiculous! Dont set yourself up to fail through restriction!

I've lost five pounds of solid fat in less than a month.  we arent talking water weight or a flip-flop "diet".  I eat whatever I want as long as I dont goover my caloric intake number.  Why do you think prepackaged food diets work when they have carbs and red meat etc..."Even CHOCOLATE" like the commercial says.  They are cutting your calories!

Great information on health, diet, and exercise: www.mattmetzgar.com

Weight gain is primarily caused by refined carbohydrates.  So there's two ways to avoid them: 1) eat non-refined carbs like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, or 2) restrict carbohydrates in general.

In my opinion, there is really no need to directly restrict carbohydrates.  if you stick to fruits and vegetables, the fiber they contain will naturally limit carb consumption and also digest slowly.

In sum, stick to fruits and vegetables for carbs and don't worry about counting carb grams.

As an RN who has to diet to control glucose intolerance (ie, pre-diabetes) I have found the Atkin diet of almost zero carbs to be the best diet for me.  However, it is expensive and tends to get boring over time.  Additionally , since I am on a gluten free diet because I am unable to tolerate wheat, barley or rye, the Atkin diet is A-OK for Gluten-free eating.....and I use it when eating out.   Lately I have been experimenting with Resistant Carbs like cold corn and cold rice and cold beans, and I am getting great results on increasing my sensitivity to insulin!  I am slowly losing the strange belly fat that has been stubborn to weight loss.  Also of amazing significance when I went on the Gluten-Free diet my cholesterol and triglycerides which had been up for years PLUMMETED TO BELOW NORMAL WITHIN 6 WEEKS!!!!  Frankly I think our American diet with it's abundance of gluten and modified food starch (wheat.....MAIMED wheat, at that!) is bringing us down into a nation of ill people.    We are what we eat.   PS:  giving up Aspartame also has helped me with weight loss......and if you read the labels, aspartame is in products you never would think would need aspartame!   Good Luck.
