You might try running dark wood (in keeping with your asian/african theme) strips flat across the entire width of the mirrors. Don't separate them mirror by mirror, but rather one long strip across the entire width of that wall; using separate strips will give a cluttered effect. This will update the outdated contemporary look of the stark mirror. Use a moulding type of strip, perhaps 1/4" by 3" and put flat against the mirror. If you want to shelve that wall, use same type of strip, but change the direction so that you may use the 3" or" 4" width of the moulding to put small dark accent frames, small vases, small figurines. You can also alternate, flat vs. shelf. Also you may put a high colored accessory, something to pick up the color in the fabric (sofa, chair) or paintings or one of the other pieces in that room just here and there to coordinate that wall with the decor of the rest of the room. The average ceiling is 8', if you run them horizontally every foot or 18", the effect is almost startling. Also this is very cost effective , since you can buy raw wood, stain it to the desired color and apply with rubber cement. Not an original idea; from an article in Architectural Digest on your exact dilemma.
