Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

Just an idea.

Is there or was there a mortgage on the house?  The lender would require that the house has adequate insurance, so I would think that the insurance company would be noted on the mortgage paperwork.

The first reply is correct,--your mortgage company will have a record of the insurance carrier.  If you have no mortgage, check your bank records for a check to an insurance company.  Someone had to pay the premium.  The date should be in the same anniversary month as the original purchase of the house. Also, check with your auto insurance agent.  People often buy their homeowner's insurance from the same agent as their auto.
