I lost around 100 pounds in a year and half last year..and the diet I was on didn't feel like it was working anymore becase I stopped loosing weight on the scale, so I gave up. Now I've gained about 30 pounds back..what can I do???
Since you are an experienced dieter you probably know that your body will seek a set point. With any diet even careful ones the body will decide at some point that a famine is on and it must shut down to conserve resources. In other words your metabolism changes and slows. One of the best ways to reset this set point is exercise. If you are already exercising try to increase duration or intensity. For example run harder or longer. If exercise has not been part of your program, start a careful, slow but steady exercise routine. You came a long way and setbacks are to be expected. Hang in there! Good luck.
Basically you need to reach a point where your lifestyle enables you to hold your weight. For instance if you run 10 KM a day and lose weight it won't stay off cause you won't be able to continue at that pace. That is why you need to figure out a lifestyle for yourself in which you can hold the weight you are at without gaining weight.
Try and stick to a reasonable regime which you won't feel deprived keeping. That is the key to keeping weight off.
The road to nowhere is paved with good 'intentions'.
Congratulations! 100lbs. is a lot to lose! Obviously you need to keep up the good work, you've come so far! If I were you, I'd get back on your previous diet program again. Once you lose that 30 lbs. again, try a new diet and exercise that will continue to tip the scale for you.. and I like what Galen said too about 'sticking to a reasonable regimen'. Just don't give up! Again, Congratulations!!!
