Long-term effects of high heels?

Will wearing high heels all the time ruin my feet as I get older?  Will I start to have back/leg problems?

I'll search, while you Cool wait.

I am a heel wearer, love 'em.  Have always worn them since  the eary 80s until now.  I was told by my physician that I should not wear them anymore, and wear sneakers.  I stubborn and I still do wear heels instead of sneakers as I was advised. I cannot help myself.  Over the years, I have caused problems with my right foot due to wearing heels.  I don't have back problems or anything like that, only a foot problem and some pain in the right knee.  After wearing the pointed shoe for so long, the foot conformed to the shape of the shoe.  I am developing a bunion and I experience bottom foot pain beneath the big-toe area.  Have been told that I've developed a tumor.  The pain is daily, and I have had cortisone shots but narcotic pain killers seem to provide the only relief.  As I am military, and run often, I need my feet.  I did not seek medical assistance from the Army, they probably would medically discharge me or give me a medical statement not requiring me to run or wear boots.  I sought the care of a civilian physician and  I am learning to deal with my pain daily.  Essentially heels can ruin your feet and damage the nerves.

I just read this from WebMD and thought about you.

That depends on your unique situation. If you have perfectly healthy feet, it will certainly wear them down. I deal with a condition that requires my feet to be at a 45 degree angle all the time. As a result, I wear heels constantly, but I do make certain to that the heels are not too high and that the heels are solid, avoiding those little heels that can cause your ankles to wobble and/or twist, etc. The best person to ask is your doctor.
