London to lake district

What is the fastest way to get from London to The lake district? (I won't have enough energy for an 8 hour drive...)

I have to disagree about the 8 hour drive. if you drive through M25 > M40 > M6, should only take about 4 hours unless you're leaving from South East London in Friday rush hour.

You can Get a flight to Blackpool and take a train from there. Note that it won't be easy to manage in the lakes without a car.

Take the train to Oxenholme direct service from London in less than 3 hours. Cross the platform and catch the connection to Windermere. A car is handy but not essential - you can take a tour to see the main sites www.lakedistricttours.co.uk or there are buses through the lakes.

Driving in the lakes can be fun but not if you want to see the scenery as you drive!
