For those of you who do not believe in God or a Higher Power, to what to you attribute your ability to sustain serenity, peace, hope in today's world?
Most of the shadows of this life are caused by our standing in our own sunshine.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
there are a lot of people who do not sustain serenity, peace and hope....
For me personally, I have struggled with my belief in God for a long time. I want to say I believe in him, but really cant commit 100% ya know? But I hold everything Christianity stands for very close to me. Brotherhood, community, the moral philosophy and such.
My belief, or way I look at things, kind of ties Christianity and Existentialism. We all face the same nameless foe in this world. Christians called it sin, or satan. Existentialists called it the absurd. And society calls it The Man. We are all constantly fighting against this evil, however we call it. If we run from it, it wont change anything, because we cannot run from it. We cannot just busy ourselves to the point where we convince ourselves it doesnt exist, because it still will.
Only by facing this thing head on, together, with a common purpose can we really have any chance of fighting it, by staying unified with a sort of Christian brotherhood. We can never truely win against it because it is eternal, but by keeping others close to us with the mindset that we all struggle, and to always help those in need out love, is sort of the way I approach life.
I sustain serenity, peace, and hope by reminding myself that we are in this together, and so in that respect I am never truly alone. I have hope whenever I can make someone smile, and I maintain peace by relying on the love of others.

The Bible says that God lives within all of us. There is no man on Earth who doesn't wonder where they came from, where they are going, and what their purpose is on Earth. Even atheists have this inclination to seek out God through believers and try to tear his existence down. Now people of all faiths and "none" (though to be an atheist IS a faith) do some really messed up things and always have, but it doesn't make their belief in God false.
Also think about this; why do people fear death? Is it because they don't know what happens after death? Uh, no, a straw man argument. People fear the death itself. Death is usually painful, people feel they'd be leaving this world without fulfilling their dreams, it can sneak up on you or anyone you know at any time, and most people just aren't ready to die. Ever.
Believing something happens after death is comforting but certainly not going to sway me into believing God exists because that doesn't solve the problem of me dying, and more than likely, a very painful death.
