Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

Sorry, I couldn't disagree with you more. I enjoy football with all the innovations to the equipment, technology, etc. If football is boring how come there are no longer any college or pro teams that are considered dynasties? Another thing to take into consideration, the average size of a football player is much bigger then back in the 1940s, and if it wasn't for the equipment they use today, his career would be even shorter then what it is today.

I'm afraid your game would last one half, tops, before the Surgeon General intervened. More than one coach has described today's players as "human missiles" with the size and speed factors involved. To compare the 1940's to today is a joke; highly superior athleticism, combined with many moronic or idiotic IQ"s equals "Death Be Not Proud".

Decade of Decadence: Counting Down Sports'...

As the decadent city of Rome burned in 64 A.D., Nero fiddled. As the world of sports descended into decadence throughout the first decade of the 21st century, Pacman Jones made it rain. No single incident more summarizes the decade that was, than Jones' rainstorm in the final hours of the NBA 's 2007 All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas. Pacman, then a defensive back for the Tennessee Titans, began to make it rain -- throwing money in the air as if it were raining -- in a strip club called Minxx. Jones, who reportedly arrived with $100,000 in cash -- gambling winnings, carried in black trash bags -- stood on the stage and made it rain while the strippers cavorted around him. Shortly after the rainstorm began, a fight broke out as the strippers scrambled to grab the money on the gilded stage. From there a bouncer was shot outside the club, and chaos reigned. The "making-it-rain" story grabbed headlines for months, was the pivotal event surrounding the NFL's new personal conduct policy, and represented, in a matter of minutes, the perfect illustration of our own decade of sports decadence. For the unaware, decadence is defined thusly: "A process, condition, or period of deterioration or decline, as in morals or art; decay." And while Pacman's making it rain might have crystallized the decadent decade of sports, he had many compatriots. Dive in for the 10 most decadent events that summed up the decade that was in sports.

LeBron Steals French Fries From Courtside Fan

LeBron James didn't think scoring 44 points against the Oklahoma City Thunder was enough. Nope. He felt as if he also needed to take his game into the kitchen. Or more specifically: into the stands. Where there are french fries. Which he ate. Seriously. Bron, after converting a layup, ended up near the crowd. While there he spotted a gentleman with a plate of fries in his lap. Naturally, he helped himself to a few . As is almost always the case in these situations, the fan was quite receptive to Bron's culinary advances and appeared thrilled to share his in-game snack with the King.

Hideki Matsui Reportedly Close to Signing...

Filed under: Angels , Yankees , AL East , AL West , MLB Rumors , MLB Free Agency After seven seasons in New York, it appears World Series MVP Hideki Matsui may be headed out the door. According to an ESPN.com report, the Los Angeles Angels are in "serious discussions" with the 36-year-old Japanese slugger for a one-year deal worth $6.5 million. Matsui compiled a .292 batting average with 140 home runs, 597 RBI and an .852 OPS over the course of seven seasons with the Yankees . He made two All-Star teams, but his best work came in the playoffs. While 2009 marked his first postseason with a championship and an individual award, his career postseason numbers are much better than in the regular season. In 56 games, he hit .312 with 10 home runs, 39 RBI and a .933 OPS. If this reported deal does come to fruition, the trickle-down effect will be just as interesting as the signing itself.

SI.com , FOXSports.com and CSNPhilly.com are all reporting that an agreement has been made in some form, with CSNPhilly.com saying that Halladay and his agent are in Philadelphia to meet with the team and potentially discuss an extension.

Roundball Roundtable: Does LeBron Need to...

Filed under: Cavaliers , Knicks , NBA Rumors Over the weekend, none other than Magic Johnson made the case for Cavaliers/Planet Earth superstar LeBron James to cut the Cleveland cord this summer and make haste for Madison Square Garden . LeBron 2010 discourse has almost reached broken record status, but Earvin actually added a nice wrinkle: can LeBron ever become an icon in Ohio? FanHouse's NBA team weighed Magic's arguments. Will Brinson: This makes me hate Magic . What a frontrunner. Brett Pollakoff: I've never been a fan of Magic (remember, I grew up hating those '80s Lakers teams), so I can't believe I'm about to defend him. But honestly, he's right. Like it or not, teams like the Lakers and Yankees are iconic, so it's true: being a part of continuing the tradition (as Magic was winning those five titles in L.A.) is going to put you in a more "legendary" historical context.

Kansas Still Reigns in Associated Press Top...

Filed under: Media Watch The Associated Press released its Top 25 NCAA Men's Basketball poll on Monday afternoon. Kansas (9-0) and Texas, for the third-straight week, sit atop the rankings with Kansas the widely accepted number one team -- receiving 61of the 65 available first-place votes. Syracuse (10-0, ranked 5th) was awarded two first place votes, while Texas (8-0, ranked 2nd) received one first-place vote and Kentucky (10-0, ranked 3rd) the final first-place vote. Two teams entered the Top 25 this week as two fell out. Kansas State (9-1), who beat then 18th-ranked UNLV (7-1), enters at No. 17 for its first Top 25 appearance since 2007-08. New Mexico (10-0) comes in at No. 19 and hasn't seen the Top 25 since the final poll of the 1998-99 season. The Lobos made the jump to the No. 19 spot after beating the then 16th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday. UNLV fell completely out of the Top 25 as did Wisconsin (7-2), who was ranked No. 20, with a loss last week to Green Bay.

Van Gundy Calls Donaghy's Book Tour...

Filed under: Magic , NBA Referees , NBA Coaches Magic coach Stan Van Gundy has been around the NBA long enough to understand the business of selling a book - however tainted it may be -- but he doesn't have to like it. And with Tim Donaghy , the disgraced former league official, Van Gundy hates what he sees happening. Since leaving prison, where he served 15 months on federal felony conspiracy charges that involved his betting on games in which he officiated, Donaghy has been on a media tour touting his book with unsubstantiated details of corruption within the profession. "I think what he's doing now is despicable,'' Van Gundy said when asked about Donaghy. "I have trouble with it, trying to throw everyone else under the bus. You made a mistake. You got caught. Now stand up like a man and take your punishment.''

When Will Tiger's Exile End? Let the...

Filed under: PGA , Golf Odds and Ends So, just how long is an "indefinite" leave? That's the question the PGA Tour now is contemplating after Tiger Woods announced he is taking a break from golf to work on his family-man skills. "Part of me, when I read it, would like to think he's really serious in the statement and that he really does want to make things right at home," NBC golf analyst Gary Koch said in Naples, Fla., where he was broadcasting the Shark Shootout. "And he's going to do it, however long it takes, it takes. "Then there's another part, the golfer side of me, that says, geez, I just can't believe he'll miss the Masters, or he'll miss the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, or the British Open in St. Andrews. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'll be amazed if he's not back by the Masters ."

Jilted by Bay, BoSox Move On to Lackey

Filed under: Angels , Red Sox , MLB Inside Scoop , MLB Hot Stove , MLB Free Agency Once Jason Bay rejected the Red Sox 's latest offer to re-sign him, Boston apparently decided to use that money on a pitcher instead of a left fielder -- specifically John Lackey . Lackey and the Sox reached a tentative agreement Monday night on a five-year deal worth between $15 million and $17 million a year, according to the Associated Press. FanHouse was first to report, via a major league source, that, Lackey, the former Angels ace, was in Boston to take a physical on Monday morning. The addition of Lackey would give Boston a 1-2-3 of Josh Beckett , Lackey and Jon Lester -- a nice move to counter the Yankees ' World Series title and acquisition of center fielder Curtis Granderson . But the Sox would still need a corner infielder (or could decide to go with Casey Kotchman at first) and a left fielder -- either a regular or a right-handed hitter to platoon with Jeremy Hermida .

Sources: South Florida Coach Jim Leavitt...

Filed under: South Florida , Big East TAMPA, Fla. -- University of South Florida coach Jim Leavitt grabbed a player by the throat then struck him twice in the face during halftime of the Bulls' Nov. 21 game with Louisville , the player's father, his high school coach and five members of USF's football program told FanHouse. The incident involved sophomore walk-on Joel Miller that stemmed from Leavitt being upset over Miller's first-half mistake on special teams, according to witnesses. Leavitt, who was out of town Monday recruiting, would not comment specifically about the incident when reached on his cell phone. "I'll visit with you about recruiting," Leavitt said. "All the stuff we do in there [the locker room] ... I'll visit with you about recruiting. "Things that happen or don't happen usually are kept within the team -- whether they happen or don't happen. If you want to talk about recruiting, I'll talk about recruiting." According to the five witnesses -- USF players and staff members -- Leavitt was pacing in the Raymond James Stadium locker room at halftime when he walked about 10 feet to the locker where Miller was sitting without his helmet. Leavitt then grabbed Miller by the throat and hit him twice in the face with his hand. "You do something like that [on the street], you put them in jail," Paul Miller, Joel's father and a former Tampa police officer, told FanHouse. "Somewhere [Leavitt] crossed the line." " You do something like that [on the street], you put them in jail. " -- Paul Miller, father of south florida player Joel Miller A South Florida spokesman said the school would review the allegation. "The University of South Florida is aware of the story and will review the matter promptly," said Michael Hoad, vice president for communication. "We're committed to ensuring due process for everyone involved. To ensure fairness, the university doesn't comment during a review." The witnesses all talked to FanHouse on the condition of anonymity because they said they feared Leavitt would remove them from scholarship or they might lose their job. Joel Miller's teammates and his high school coach said Miller told them he wouldn't go public because he feared retribution and would be dismissed from the team. "He really wants to play football," said David Mitchell, who was Miller's head coach at Tampa's Wharton High School. "He told me he's concerned if he says something [to the administration] 'I won't be able to play football. If I don't [say anything], I will be able to keep playing football.' "The message I left with him when I spoke with him was: 'If you don't say anything, it's going to occur again to other players.' This was way over the line." Miller refused comment when contacted by FanHouse Sunday night. "I'd rather not speak about it right now," Miller said. "There are a lot of things going on. I have no comment about this situation." Miller told teammates he did not notify athletic director Doug Woolard about the incident. It's unknown if Woolard, who immediately did not return a phone call seeking comment, was aware of the incident that the entire team and staff knew had occurred. Two days after the incident, Miller told his father, teammates and staff members he went to Leavitt's office to discuss the incident. Instead, Miller left feeling disrespected, threatened and intimidated, according to his teammates. "Coach I want to talk to you about what happened," Joel told Leavitt on Nov. 23. "Before you say anything," said Leavitt, according to what Miller told others in USF's program and his father, "just know I am the most powerful man in this building." USF's football offices are located in the USF Athletic Facilities building along with USF's entire athletics department administrative staff, including Woolard. Leavitt's only recent public comments about Miller (pictured) came in his weekly news conference Dec. 1. Responding to a special teams question, Leavitt talked about USF's "poor special teams" and mentioned some penalties, including one by Miller. "Miller had one [penalty] two games ago [against Louisville] that was a penalty and should have been called," Leavitt said. On the afternoon of Dec. 3 -- nearly two weeks after the incident -- Leavitt left cell phone messages wanting to meet Miller. They met in his office where Leavitt apologized, according to what Miller told his father, teammates and staff members. Ironically, Leavitt's 12-day old apology came one day after Kansas coach Mark Mangino resigned amid an investigation into his treatment of his players, including verbal abuse or having inappropriate physical contact with his players. Leavitt and Mangino were assistants together at Kansas State from 1991-95. Mitchell, who has been coaching 27 years including the last 13 at Wharton High School, said he would not recommend any more of his players to play for Leavitt at USF. "I would not send a kid where he will be humiliated or mistreated," Mitchell said. "It [playing for Leavitt] is like knowing someone is considering buying a bad car. You tell them 'It doesn't run, it's no good, don't buy it.' If they still decide to, they have to live with that decision. But at least I let them know how bad it was." Leavitt, who is 67-40 overall and 17-18 in the Big East as the only coach in the program's 13-year existence, never mentioned the incident to the team. Leavitt is completing the second year of a seven-year contract worth $12.6 million. He will make $1.6 million this year, plus incentives. "That's another thing I thought about a lot," a witness said. "He knows everyone knows, so for him not to address it to the team is really interesting. He knows his staff and all the players are talking about it. Why wouldn't my head coach talk to me about it?" When the incident occurred in the locker room, one witness said he couldn't believe it. "I was thinking 'am I really seeing this?' " a player said. "I've never felt wronged by [Leavitt], he's done nothing but help me, but when I witnessed that, I was like 'this is bull----.' "If he would have grabbed another player like that, they would have done something, but he knew he could do something like that and Joel wouldn't fight back." Added a staff member: "We've had our ups and downs this year, but in that particular case, that was a different situation." The witnesses all said Leavitt was upset at Miller because he made a mistake on special teams in the first half. The 6-foot, 190-pound Miller, who played at Wharton High School located about 10 miles from USF, decided to walk on to USF instead of accept a scholarship offer to a smaller FBS school. In two seasons at USF, he has played in 21 games, almost exclusively on special teams, and has 11 tackles. Paul Miller, who has spoken to FanHouse on five occasions since Dec. 1, said he initially didn't want to disclose what happened because his son "just wants to play football. But at the same time, as a father, I'm very upset. Follow Us on Twitter Friend Us on Facebook "If [Joel is] a whistle-blower, people say that they stand behind him and then they push everyone behind him. You still suffer some consequences. He's a helluva football player. He just wants to play." Leavitt's contract indicates he may be terminated with cause for "a finding of a serious, major or intentional violation by Coach of the Athletic Rules" or suspended with pay if a "charge has been initiated against Coach; a formal inquiry or charge is pending ... concerning any alleged major, significant or repeated violation of Athletic Rules by the Coach." The witnesses had mixed opinions on what, if any, punishment Leavitt should receive. "That's a tough question," one witness said. "I don't see that as means or grounds for losing his job, but at the same time, they need to take whatever means necessary to make sure that doesn't happen here again." Another witness felt it was grounds for dismissal. "You can't grab someone like that in any profession," the witness said. "Why should he get different standards?" USF, which finished 7-5, 3-4 in the Big East, will play Northern Illinois in the International Bowl on Jan. 2 in Toronto. Contact FanHouse reporter Brett McMurphy at brettmcmurphy@gmail.com

Rockets' Trevor Ariza Throws Punch, Faces...

Filed under: Raptors , Rockets , NBA Videos It was a frustrating Sunday afternoon in Toronto for the visiting Houston Rockets. Not only was the team run off the floor in a game that tipped at 12:30PM local time, but its biggest (active) star was ejected, and will likely miss the next game due to a league-mandated suspension. Trevor Ariza, as you'll see in the following video clip, loses the ball to Raptors' rookie DeMar DeRozan. As soon as DeRozan starts to head the other way, Ariza takes a swing at the back of his head, and immediately gets himself ejected from the game. Thankfully for all involved, Ariza didn't connect.

Cori Rist Talks Tiger Woods on 'Today Show'

Filed under: Sports Media , Current Events , Golf Three days after Jamie Jungers appeared on the Today Show to discuss her affair with Tiger Woods , Cori Rist was on the morning program to do the same thing. Rist, who has a seven-year-old son, wanted to set the record straight: she is not a prostitute, Woods never gave her money, and when it became clear that the world's best golfer wasn't leaving his wife for Rist, she broke it off. Rist said that she first met Tiger at a night club in 2006, a year after he married Elin Nordegren . They had a "six month physical relationship" and then maintained a "two-and-a-half-year friendship after that and he still pursued me and invited me to numerous places ... and I did not go." When asked why she didn't accept Woods' invitations to meet, Rist admitted that "I felt guilty when I saw the pictures of his wife and his child. I had convictions and I knew that it was wrong. ... The things he was telling me were false." Related: Track Tiger's Mistresses With Handy Cheat Sheet And what was he telling Rist? Brian Kelly Tweets That His House Got Egged

Filed under: College Sports Brian Kelly wasted zero time getting his Twitter account all "Irish'd-out" -- and despite his statements to the contrary, he sure did seem excited about taking the Notre Dame job. I don't begrudge him that at all, it's just that with the way he accepted his new position (read: looking like a 17-year-old who just walked into his first nudie bar), well, it's obvious that the people who said he would "crawl through mud" to get the gig were spot-on. Anyway, not everyone is so forgiving. According to Coach Kelly's Twitter account , his house in Cincy got egged and someone put a nasty little message on his lawn: Spent most of the morning on the phone with recruits. House got egged last night and the sign on the lawn wasn't a FOR SALE sign. So, yeah, Cincinnati fans are a little upset with Kelly (just like the players !) and rightfully so. Kelly bounced on them to take his dream job ... but the way in which he did it makes even objective outsiders feel a little slimy inside. (Which is also probably similar to how his house feels on the exterior ... but I digress.) Judging by the docile nature of his tweet, I guessing that Kelly's just going to let all this slide and move on; he could attempt to press charges or seek out the ne'er-do-gooders who lobbed the poultry product at his windows, but what's the point? All he'll manage to do is further alienate the Cincy fanbase, we'll keep making a big deal out of it, and it'll disrupt his move to South Bend. Instead, I would recommend he sit in his living room and count his millions of Catholic-church-funded dollars.
