The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

Is the Last Lecture by Randy Pausch an appropriate gift for someone to read who's relative has just been diagnosed with cancer?  She has read many books already but I am unsure if the Last Lecture by Randy Pausch is suitable as she is more interested in treatment books.

I've heard of that book (haven't read it yet), but when it comes to something like that it's a very personal thing and, unless she's expressed a desire to you to read it, I'd pass.

Is your friend's relative a spouse or close family member? Will she end up being a caretaker of this person? You might wait and give her the gift of time, later on - when she will need respite from her relative's illness.

My dad has terminal cancer and my stepmom is his primary caregiver. Sometimes she just needs a break. Your friend may, too.

I know what you mean here, I was in a similar circumstance.  Tread carefully and don't do anything without some form of approval first - just in case.  It is a sensitive topic for all involved.  If you're friend is more directed towards cancer treatments have a look at this site Heal Your Cancer .  There is a compilation of books of other people's true stories as well as some alternative methods.  It may be helpful for you or your friend.
