You could take a look at Why's (Poignant) Guide to Ruby . It's a little unusual. There's also some basic video tutorials on the basics of identifiers , whitespace , variable scope and duck typing - and you can probably find a lot more on Youtube. Rubyflow and RubyInside websites have lots more resources. There's literally tons of free information if you do a Google search. And, if you don't mind buying a book, "Programming Ruby" - also called the Pickaxe - is a respected reference.

But keep in mind that a good place for me to start learning something might not be a good place for you. Every teacher and every student has their own way of talking and listening so it's up to you to find a match that works for you .
