Leaking boiler

I have a Chappee Bermuda hot water system that has a leak where the flange (hot water) connects to the boiler. I have tried to get it repaired several times by local plumbers. They look at it and tell me they will schedule a repairman to come out and that's the last I hear from them. If I turn the furnace off water leaks out as the boiler cools down. Presumably, I need a new gasket and I did take the initiative and wemt to a large city and purchased gasket material. I have cut and installed gaskets for automobiles and other machinery but am not familiar with hot water boilers. What is the procedure and is there a book available? I have almost every tool you can think of and consider myself very handy. I seem to have no other choice but to fix it myself.
