What Laws bound a doctor to properly care for patient ?

In The State of New Jersey  What are the laws and Legal responsibility a Doctor has to his patient?  Example: My Doctor orders various test for chronic pain in leg and orders Blood work and other test. The test results were in , and yet he nor staff called me and the results are concerning. Doesn't the Doctor have a responsibility to call or at least have his staff call me to inform the patient the blood test came back High And x rays Results patient needs to see Specialist etc. Just what are a Patients rights by law and what are by law the Doctors responceablty to the patient being infomed and care for? Also if any Federal laws apply ADA etc please advise where I can find the legal info and staues stating the A doctors Legal and moral medical obligations to patients , and in New Jersey Who regulates the Doctors to ensure they are obeying medical laws and protecting the patients rights to proper medical treatment and being infomed by the doctor of test results?

I recently went to a new doctor and noticed he was located in something called the Professional Building. I felt better right away.

The first thing I would do is go to this web site from the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners. If you go to Consumers there is a drop down menu where you will find "complaints." I think you are quite right in bringing this up to the Board and ask them about the laws etc.

I am not sure of the LAWS in the State of NJ, however in FL, the patient has as much burden on them, as the Physician has in seeking/calling for the results!

With the numbers any Physician takes on in these times, a delay is always expected. If I were the patient, when the tests are done, whoever performed the services, I would have inquired of THEM, when the  Physician should have the results, and take on the responsibility, for my OWN wellbeing to make the call to the Physician, or a follow up appointment, and obtain a HARD COPY of the report, which you are entitled to.  THEY ARE YOUR MEDICAL RECORDS.

In the State of Florida, the Florida Departmnt of Health, Quality Assurance, is the Agency arm that handles discipline of any physician who has misdiagnosed. misprescibed, negligence, abandonment, etc., and it follows an investigative process.  If there is due cause, it is forward to the Office of the General Counsel/Prosecution Unit, and the State Medical Board files an ADMINISTRATIVE COMPLAINT and the physician has to undergo further questioning, disproving allegations brought against he/she.

I have involved in this procedss right now.  Additionaly the physician went before the Peer Review Committee Hearing at the Hospital where the incident occurred and was heavily fined/and his privileges TERMINATED!

There is an exact process that needs to be carried out to the inth degreee.  DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT~~~ is your defense to PROVE beyond a shadow of a doubt your allegations.  I have.....and I expect stellar results.

Best of Luck and to Good Helth.

Only if you have been in the deepest valley, can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.

Well, my Doctor and his staff advise me they will call me when test are in. And to please not call them asking for results and they will ciontact me. My concern comes in when they dont contact me in the time period they say will and I eben give a extra week before I contact them , and find out Oh yeah your test results came in last week , we have to adjust your meds and advise you of other concefrns found in test. This is not the first time but like 3 rd time . and these are serious blood test and MRI;s test. . In New Jersy I firured I would post the question and did get good answer from first responce person NJ medical Board , who I contacted and they advised me that any serious test assoicated with casing pain, and there is no obvious reasons, And the result come back with medication chages that are inportant as are mine the paintent should be contact asap.bia phone. I thought  wow, I remeber when my doctor and or staff would even contact me when results were ok. But now seems I have to always check up with them and then find out there are serious findings resulting in right away new test and to see sprecalist soon as possiable. this kind of info needs to told to paitent soon as doctor sees the results which he sing off on over 6 day prior to my calling.

I thought would ask out of curiouslty what are the responceabltys of the Doctor and the patient. Strange, some my doctors are  right on top of everything about me and keep me inform of everything while others I been in the waiting room and seen patients come in demading to know where are there stress test results and or medical records for they tired of lack of care and going to other doctors. I also seen major lack of service dropped over years. while newer doctors are more concern with patients chronic care vs the Big dollar.  I think also it is wrong when pharmiscial rep come walking in and there are paitents waiting since they have appontiments and theses pharm reps walk in and say they just need to see doctor 2 minutes and the staff lets them right in , they get commision for each doctor signature visited and 3 more show up and our let in and mean time patients that are paying money are still waiting a hour later that sucks, other doctors I have will NOt see pharm reps during patients visiting hours , Phar reps need to see doctor before visiting hours or after. And that is the right way.! But now that I was given the NJ medical board web site , I found info helful and talking with the reps even more helpful. I haveall the info   I need Thank you to the first person that supplied the Web site and I respect the others opinons ,where all entitled to them.
