I have a Briggs & Stratton engine on my 18 inch mower. The exhaust turned blueish and the oil level dropped quite rapidly.
Is there a pressure release vent for the crankcase that has plugged or has something broken /worn suddenly?

this could be a sign of the engine over heating for some reasion. were you cutting very tall grass or weeds. maybe to high octane gas. The blue exaust makes me think of over heating the loss of oil could be from boiling away because of the over heating.
On the other hand the loss of oil could cause the over heating. Have you checked for a oil leak?
I would think if you had a vent clogged it would be blowing oil out the exaust.
