Hi Inquisitive .
Here's my personal opinion on this subject:
There is very little difference between versions 1 and 2. Sure, aesthetics are better, the battery lasts a little longer, it has a little more memory... Your overall reading experience will be pretty much the same, but you may be tempted to pay a bit more for the looks and the convenience of better key disposition.
By the way, I consider the text-to-speech function to be pretty much inexistent in all versions. You can't bear to listen to more than a couple of paragraphs with that metallic voice hammering your ears ( then again, maybe it's just me ).
Now, DX has two major improvements, besides, once again, its cool looks:
- the bigger screen does help you have a better reading experience ( even though this makes dx about twice as heavy as version 2 ).
- it has native pdf support, which facilitates the reading of formal business texts, for instance.
Unfortunately, the price is about twice as much as the earlier model.
So, is it worthy to buy one of the latest models?
That only YOU can answer, depending on your needs and preferences. One thing is sure: new models have pushed down the price of earlier versions, as mentioned in the previous answer.
Here's a page with more information, tips and prices on the different models in case you still want to buy the Kindle , so that you can make an informed decision.
Good luck to you.
