Is it worth getting Kindle: Amazon's Original Wireless Reading Device (1st generation) or should I get a newer model? What is missing in the Kindle: Amazon's Original Wireless Reading Device (1st generation) that is available in the newer models?
The newer Kindles such as the Kindle Wireless Reading Device (6") and the larger Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device (9.7") have more memory, and more features like faster page refresh, better screens and text to speech reader.
The advantage of the 6" version is that it can be used outside the US, where as the 9.7" one is US only. The larger model does have some advantages other than size: accelerometer which turns the text depending which way you are holding the screen and it supports pdf files natively.
The first edition is very cheap now of course, so if you just want to read a few ebooks and don't really need the features mentioned above it will be just fine.
