Decide on the primary color you'd like to have, then use a color wheel to find a complementary color and go from there.

Or, if you have kitchenware or accessories you adore, pull two colors from your favorite pieces and use one for the walls and the other for the trim and hardware.

Most of all, don't be afraid to experiment and have fun.

Good luck.

add a focal point in your kitchen like a tile mural backsplash. Then pick colors to coordinate with it.

Warm earth colors are always good for a kitchen. You want it to be bright but not glaringly so. I, personally hate white, any shade of white. So a kichen for me should be sunshine colors. The tile backsplash as a focal point is also a good idea.
