Joining a Debate club

I'm considering to join a debate club. The problem is that I'm a quite, not too argumentative person. What do you think about joining such club? Will it help me to open up , or would it do the opposite assuming that most people joining such club are very gifted with rhetoric qualities and extroverted ?

It does help to be extraverted, but I'm the opposite and had a fair bit of success debating back in my school years. You don't have to be an "argumentative person". In fact that usually works against you. The idea is to present a rational, well thought-out perspective on your topic, then pick up on any flaws you see in your opponent's logic. If you get too emotional, you'll lose your stream of thought and possibly give your opponent a chance to spot a weakness in your side. And it gives you the same opportunity, if your opponent gets too excited.

Why did you decide to join the debate club at the first place ?

Is is to work on your rhetoric abilities or is it because you are interested in a specific debate club ?

You need to know the answer to this question to be with sincere yourself, but either way I say - go and try it out.
You might not like it at all and decide not to come back again, which is legitimate, or you might find that the people in the debate club help you to open up and speak out, expressing you inner opinions.

I don't think you should be afraid to try out new stuff.
