Job prospects for college students/graduates

This question is for college students or recent graduates: What's been your experience in trying to line up summer employment or internships, and how does it compare to years past? And, if you've been successful, what advice would you give others who are looking to gain experience in their field? Make sure to mention your area of study or career choice. Thanks.

It's not the mountain we conquer... but ourselves

I am in the nonprofit field, and I think that with perseverence, you can still find a job, if you are educated, hard-working and interesting.  I find that looking for a job can be either annoying or exciting.  If you apply to a few jobs every day, if you're open-minded about where you want to work and you're willing to live in a number of places, and you don't give up until you find a job, you'll find a job.  That's what I've experienced thus far.
