I saw on Fox News this weekend a controversary about wires strung in Jewish neighborhoods somewhere in Long Island or nearby.  What is the religious tradition about this? Thank you.

The controversary was about a Jewish custom called Eruv and I found it on the Internet through MyJewishLearning:Eruv.
