Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity (Love), I am become as a sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vauneth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seekth not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth.

And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is (Love) charity.

Beezle,

I am not offended and I am sorry if I came off that way. I was merely saying, I don't care who came up with the date (pagans or christians), I am honoring the birth of christ, not the date.

The original question asked, was concerning Jehovah's Witnesses. I try to make it a practice not to debate religion.  I respect others religion, just like I expect them to respect mine. I answered monkeyface's question with the knowledge that I had of working with Jehovah Witnesses, not to start a debate on Christmas and Christians.

Be Blessed.

Jehovah Witnesses believe in God the father but they do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as the only begotten son of God. They acknowledge Jesus as a great prophet of the bible.

Cults do not teach that faith in Jesus Christ as savior and forgiveness of sins through him alone, is the only way to heaven.

There are many danger signs that can warn you that a group is a cult. Jesus said that you can tell a man's heart by his actions.

You must compare the teachings of any religious group with the teachings in the bible. That's why it is so important to know your Bible. If the teachings of a religious group are contrary to what is found in God's word, and if they tell you that their way is the only way to peace and happiness, then you may be dealing with a cult. Cults institute a religious system that is contrary to what God has established in the Bible.

Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets , which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

I John 2:22-23 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is an'-ti-christ that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [but] he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the father also.

I believe that you can draw your own conclusions from the above.

Yes. The Jehovah's Witnesses organization is a cult in that they do not believe in the deity of Christ , that is they say Jesus is not God, and view him as only a created being-- Micheal the archangel.

It is because of this along with their denial of the Virgin birth of Christ, and the person of the Holy spirit  as God and denial of the trinity, that makes them a cult

Where did you get your facts?  I studied with the Jehova Witnesses a year and yes they DO believe Jesus Christ is the son of God and born of Mary.  I only wrote to ask if they are a cult because another church i joined told me they were and could not prove it.  Seems most people get their facts mixed up and repeat rumors.  I quit that church after 2 years and felt that they were more like a cult than any other I had been in.  They also told lies.

First of all, a cult really refers to a group of people, usually fronted by a charismatic leader that has either extremist views, or views not generally accepted by the masses.  The term cult has nothing to do with beliefs in God or Christ.  The traveling together in packs spreading the word, and having to fork over 35% of your annual salary to their church makes them more of a cult.  Buddhists are not cult members.  Those who practice Wicca are not cult members.  JW's are mighty close, in my opinion, to being considered a cult.

Hi Monkeyface,

I worked with several Jehovah Witnesses for 30 years. This is not a rumor that I heard but was told word of mouth. My friend is a deacon with the Jehovah Witnesses and he told me this flat out. He says they do not celebrate birthdays, and Christmas because they do not believe in the virgin birth of Christ. They believe that Jesus was a great prophet but not the son of God.

I worked with this man for at least 30 years of my 34 years of employment and know him to be a devout Jehovah Witness and Teacher of their doctrine. I have also read their literature. He and I were friends because I respected his religion just like he respected mine. We did not put down each other but I did let him know that my faith was in Christ.

I don't know what Kingdom Hall you did your studies at but it completely contradicts the views that most Jehovah Witnesses take when it comes to Jesus Christ.

Be Blessed.

I find it very confusing because one of the Witnesses I have studied with has been a minister for 20 years and she showed me scripture in my own bible that said Jesus was the son of God.  I did some research on them on the internet and I think the confusion lies in the fact that there are so many different interpretations of what the Jehovah Witnesses believe.  I didn't find their teachings (so far) much different than the information I got from my Evangelical church.  They do believe Easter is much more important than Christmas I know because they say other religions have the wrong birth date of Jesus.  It was not December 25.  At least knowing they have different ideas will keep me on my toes in making sure they back their claims up with scriptures.
