Jai guru deva om in the Beatles Across the Universe

What does the phrase "Jai guru deva om" mean in the Beatles song "Across the Universe"?

Is it true it's a song dedicated to their Guru?

26 thumbs up

The general translation is "I give thanks to Guru Dev" (om is a filler, so the line sounds better when sung).

Literally:
"Jai" means "Victory to"
"Guru" means "Teacher"
"Deva" means "God/Master"

Note Guru Dev was a Maharishi's teacher

Across the Universe was included in the Beatles' final album, Let It Be.
