Will J.K. Rowling's confession about suicidal thoughts remove the stigma people might feel about their depression?
She seems to have such an influence on people...
I guess if Rowling came out and said that she sought out help for her depression, this would be a positive influence for others who are having suicidal thoughts, to reach out for help rather than taking their own life. I'm not sure what influence this confession will make though.
I think the more this is talked about the better, depression and suicidal tendencies are hard enough to deal with enough without having to also be scared of prejudgment.
I'm sure it helps when any person who's a known success like JK Rowling talks about depression, because it proves that you can still have a happy productive life even if you do suffer from depression. I don't think it'll solve the problem, but it might bring it more ot the awareness of people.
Yes she has. Looking of the response of her books, I have to confess that I' m not a fan. But, maybe one day when it just drop to me her books is worth reading. Her confession about suicidal thoughts one reinforced that we are human. Perhaps she could sponsor some club or organisation to help people to overcome this stigma.. It is healing crisis for instance we know the value of health -mind and body.
I just ordered the new J.K. Rowling Tales of Beedle The Bard , The Collector's Edition at Busyboo.com and I am so excited about this book. It's a magical, wizarding textbook with metal artwork and exclusive illustrations from the enchanted Hogwarts library – a must have for every Harry Potter fan and definitely worth the price! It goes on sale on Dec. 4 but there are a limited number of copies available, so I pre-ordered my copy knowing this will be the best Christmas gift ever!
When we put short term gains before long term consequences, we invite disaster.
Thats extremely doubtful.
Depression is one of the few illnesses that, just by its nature, exponentially grows in magnitude. One of the ways it does this is its stigma. (ex. A person suffering from depression will usually have guilt because of the stigma surrounding the illness as one of their symptoms-so reaching out regarding their illness will be exceptionally difficult. Simultaneously: Others will not want to reach out to the victim because they do not understand the illness and realize instead the stigma, thus driving the victim even further into isolation. Even JK Rowling cant break this.
It doesn't surprise me that she has issues by depression; in fact, psychological disorders are fairly commonplace in creative people. It is not at all hard to find a famous writer, author, poet, actor, artist, comic, or musician with depression.-Likely because you will develop a complex that people do not understand you; and in the case of Jk Rowling, Robin Williams, and John Denver they really weren't.
