Israeli tennis player not given visa to play tennis. Is it fair?

The United Arab Emirates has refused to grant a visa to Israeli tennis player Shahar Peer to take part in a $2 million tournament in Dubai this week, the women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour said.

Is this fair?

To say nothing, especially when speaking, is half the art of diplomacy.

Of course it is not fair. Shahar Peer earned the right to play in Dubai. Last year she played in Oman, and there was no political uproar. Just think if there was a tournament that was held in Israel and certain players were not allowed in for political reasons. Do you think there would be an uproar about this? Of course there would. I just hope that the proper authorities have the guts to punish Dubai for this type of behavior. To be honest with you, I will be surprised if anything more then a slap on the wrist will come out of this.

Always know what you want.

This is bullsh*t! I cannot believe it! It's a sports competition and she's a professional athlete; we're not talking about a political event! I think the rest of the athletes should protest. No one plays unless all those athletes that rightfully earned a spot are given visas, otherwise the city should lose the right to host this and any other event until restitution has been made and the tournament should be re-scheduled for a different location. The only way this will be a fair competition if all athletes are given an equal opportunity to compete. It would make a real statement if the athletes went on strike; the WTA would have to do something about this political crap. Not to mention the hosting city would lose lots of money and these days, it's clear money talks. Until they allow all athletes in to compete, I'm boycotting and protesting the UAE and Dubai.

When Cat Stevens wanted to visit the United States, he and his young daughter were apprehended and questioned for hours. He was not allowed entry into the United States. It may not be fair, but a government has ultimate say in who is allowed into their country.

The WTA should have cancelled the tournament. Since it didn't, the WTA should be boycotted. By such conduct, Arab nations prove they are unworthy to host international competitions.

It was announced that the WTA was fined $200,000 or some thing like that (a drop in the oil bucket). By the way, Andy Ram an Israeli doubles player, has been granted a visa for a tournament that is taking place this week in Dubai. This time public pressure did pay off.

Of course not. But since when does the sporting world do "what's fair?"

It's always disappointing to see such hateful behavior.
