Israeli cellphone prices

Does anyone have any idea on how to explain the price differences betwen the prices of cellphones bought from the provider (such as Partner and Cellcom in Israel) and the prices of independent cellphone stores? (Without the SIM card of course)

I checked today and the price difference is almost 1000 shkalim (about 250$).

Does anyone know what we're being charged for?

I think it's mainly because the Israeli customers let them get away with it. Nana published

an article about it two years ago, but I think most of it is still relevant.

The cellular providers claim that to a good service, reliability and warranty there's a price. My advice- be a smart customer. Check the prices, and think if the price worth it. I got to tell you that in several cases (and it's becoming more and more common) the providers are cheaper, sometimes even there are significant differences, mainly because they want a lot of customers to join their 3rd generation services.
