Islam and pedophilia?

What can be understood from Muhammad taking a 9-year-old child as a wife? Was he a pedophile and if so, why is this not questioned?

First of all, the saying,"Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.", comes to mind. Secondly, shortly after Mohammed's first wife Khadija (15 years his senior) died, Mohammed and his band of followers were run out of Mecca for starting a new cult. They settled in Medina where one of his faithful, although misguided followers, offered his six year old  daughter Aisha in marriage to the "prophet". What could he do? He accepted. Up to this point Mohammed was said to have been a very moral person, monogamous for 25 years. Why the sudden change? No one knows. At least he didn't consumate the marriage for three years. Either he was being gracious or it was physically impossible until she was nine.

As for why it is not questioned, most anyone in the world would find sex with a nine year old girl completely monstrous, unless you happen to be a pervert of the lowest caliber or of course a devoted and trusting follower of such a mortal man who got his directions directly from Allah(I know, it does sound like Jim Jones, David Berg and others).

Too bad they didn't all ask themselves, "What would Jesus do?"

I found all of the above information in the book titled "Secrets of the Koran" by Don Richardson. I didn't make it up and his book is well cited.

It was common in all religions in the Middle East in Muhammads time up till a century or two ago for men to take wives that were very young.  Sex was usually delayed till she hit puberty.

Marriage, at that time, was a contract between families. He may have married a child, but he wouldn't have had sex with her until after her first cycle which was when girls were considered young women. It was legal, not pedophilia.

In response to Johnny123, Enki's child,and Brenda,

It may be that Aisha started puberty at nine and that Muhammed had other wives. It may have been the custom of the pagan and barbaric people of that region and time, but Muhammed was trying to assert himself as a prophet of YAHWEH. That's right. He thought of himself as a prophet on par with Elijah, Daniel, Isaiah, et al. Did he really believe that God was giving him the green light to take this innocent little girl of six as a piece of merchandise to bed at will as long as she started bleeding first?

You use words and phrases like, "It was common", "at that time", "contract between families", "It was legal, not pedophilia".

Are you aware that there are groups today like NAMBLA(North American Man-Boy Love Association and many others who are working tirelessly to rescind our statutory rape laws so that children of all ages can have consentual sex with whoever they please, no matter the partners age? They just have to be convinced that it's what they want! When these laws are changed (and they will be unless drastic change occurs in America's left-leaning thinking), are you still going to be saying things like, "It was common", "at that time", "contract between families", "It was legal, not pedophilia", or "he wouldn't have had sex with her until after her first cycle which was when girls were considered young women"? Are these the things you will say when it's your children or grandchildren?

My point is that evil is evil no matter the region, era or customs of man. Evil is not relative! God has laws higher than any man-made law, custom, or tradition. If they ever contradict each other, God's law is the default. People are always quick to point out all the evil occurances in the Bible. First of all, God is not the author of any of it. Secondly, the Bible is not Politically Correct. It does not weed out all the ugly, embarrassing skeletons in the closet of humanity. Sure Moses had more than one wife, Solomon had over a thousand wives and concubines, David committed adultery, Samson killed out of unholy rage, and there are hundreds more in example. God didn't sanction those actions nor did He excuse them. Every one of those people eventually paid for their sins. I'm sure Muhammed paid for his sins too, as we all will, because God is not mocked!

So, all that to say, please don't try to excuse away people's errors by blaming it on the times in which they lived, the region they lived in, or the customs of their people. God's law has always been present wether in print or in our hearts, so people are without excuse.

God's Wrath Against Mankind

Romans 1:18-25(The Bible)

18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

Ecclesiastes 3:11(The Bible)

11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

Please forgive me if I come across as harsh or mean at all. I'm not attacking anyone, just trying to stamp out bad ideologies.

When I said that he had other wives at the time i was (weakly) implying that he could have waited for her to be more mature

At the risk of sounding crude, the words,"waiting for a better fit", might ring more true.(Unless that's what you meant by "more mature".)

I'm sorry if I sound too harsh or condemning, but it's just that I'm tired of Islam being called a peaceful religion hijacked by fundamentalists, when it's nothing but a man made religion, started by and for the conveniences of a pedophilic megalomaniac on par with Hitler, Jim Jones,  David Koresh, the Ceasars, etc. (Albeit some had longer runs than others.) They all had delusions of grandeur. None of them cared for the people they led(to the slaughter). They only cherished their ideals and ultimatley themselves. People were tools for them!

Muhammed was no prophet, merely an entrepreneur. Unless you haven't heard, there's big money in religion. Just ask Joel Osteen!

What i meant by more mature is that a 9 year old body is not ready to carry and give birth to a baby and maybe he waited for her age and body to be more developed.                                                                                                       But one thing i have found out about all religons; they are great rules and they are all true if you want them to be.                                                                      The things we find appauling to someone else is normal. Our ideas of what is right and wrong has changed and it will change again. Christians have done sooooooooooo many atrocities it's boggles the mind and if it were ok to do them still in public they would without hesitation.                                                         I went into a incest room by mistake and stayed for a bit out of curiosity and men there are having sex with their very young  daughters (even as young as 9) because they live in "the land of the free" to do what ever age they want and they are great christians (at least on Sunday)  Let's put that in the Bible; oh yea it has been done before and it will be done again by whatever religon.
