Iradic shower stream

i have a symmons temptrol shower faucet.it was working fine during the summer. as it got colder the weather the faucet would act up? the water comes out warm at the top of the shower stream and gets cold as you go further down the stream. i am 82 years old and never in my life have i seen something like this  any ideas?

The place goes toward these types of repairs if you don't repair them. If you leave the house contract doesn't bind you if you decide not to fix it. Also you'll have to live with broken plumbing . If it were an intentional act then your landlord could recover more than the cost of repairs
