I bought an extended warranty on a Garmin GPS I bought  from Circuit City (CC) before they went out of business, and when I had a problem with it they (CC) said they were sorry but there was nothing they could do but to call Garmin. I did and Garmin had me download some new software and my problem was resolved.
My iPod Classic is still working ok. I would suggest trying to resolve the problem through Apple. Good luck.
