Investing in Government Bonds

What government bonds would you recommend investing in. I don't want to invest in US bonds which are very conservative but I'm not looking to take any great risks either.

Selecting a specific country can be difficult.

There are three options:

1.  Buy a foreign government bond that is at least AA rated and from a stable government.  There are too many to choose from and this is based on your own investment strategy

 2.  Buy bonds issued by corporations or from municipalities and states.  They do issue bonds.  Use Standard & Poors ratings system to determine which is right from you.

3.  Buy a Bond fund.   A holding company will buy bonds from around the world and use them as instruments which to strip value from to shareholders.  There are many to choose from.  If you were interested in higher risk bonds, you could focus a global fund.  You will be searching for funds then that invested in sovereign investment grade fixed income.  This is very stress free from determining which bonds to buy.

Best of luck

Thanks for the prompt answer. I was wondering if you had a specific recommendation for a certain government bond that has an AA rating? Any suggestions?

United States Government Bonds, United States Government Savings Bonds, Government Municipal Bonds and Tax Exempt Government Bonds —think of it as a more formal IOU and indeed, bonds must be legally acknowledged before in effect. Bonds are usually transferable, and it is not uncommon to find them up for bid by authorized bond holders. The transactions of bonds concern themselves with large amounts, as usually the money is used for long-term investments.

Government bonds, though, are used for immediate expenses such as infrastructure development. This involves the government issuing bonds to foreign countries or international corporations. Many of these outside or private bodies do extensive research regarding the government's economical standing, and their debt history. More often than not, government bonds are honored at their fixed maturity; the loaner pays in full with the agreed interest rate.
