Internet Trouble??

I live in a rural area in Gaines, Michigan. I am one of the very few people who still use dial-up. I cannot get DSL, cable internet, or any of the such. I'm very frustrated because I currently go to college and it takes forever to do my online assigments, or watch videos that are required to do assignments.

I guess my question is this: What can I do that is cost effective to get high speed internet, preferably something that can let me use my other devices that incorporate wifi (iPod, Wii, xbox360, etc)?

I've been looking at things like the "Novatel MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot for Verizon Wireless" but I have no idea if that is applicable in my area. That's my main problem, lol. I'm technologically challenged when it comes to internet. It's just frustrating.

I don't know if you get points like you do on yahoo answers but if you do tell me how to give points in your answer and i will award them accordingly.. I realllllllllllllllllllllllllly am deperate for some help on this one.

Hi bwild888;

I live in Las Vegas, Nevada and I use the Cricket Network Adaptor.  It is a dream, you can also get them from Sprint, Verizon Wireless. It is a small little carry it anywhere adapter.  When purchased it comes with the installation CD takes about five minutes and you are connected my tech/challenged friend.  Mine cost about $100.00 a year ago, but I got a $50.00 rebate.  Now I am not sure.  The monthly cost is $40.00 no credit check or anything you just need to have their $4.95 insurance on the thing.  You can plug it in any kind of a computer with a USB Port support.  The MiFi  you  referenced is more bang then what you really need.  It's probably alot more money too!  There is my answer, hope it helps!

I am confused.   If you can't get cable, how would you be able to use Wifi?  I have a wireless card from Verizon, but I still have to wait for videos to load, sometimes for a long time.  If you get good cell phone service, that might work for you.  I am out in the boonies and get poor cell phone connectivity.  My internet costs me $60. a month.  There is also Hiughes Net, which costs about the same and that is satellite.  You would get better service through satellite, but it can be pricey.

Best of luck to you!

I think what you should do is contact Verizon and ask to speak to a solutions expert. It will reduce the amount of leg work. They will be able to give you the options available to you, through Verizon at least.
